Martin Werner



Martin started his career as 1st AD for various commercial directors in Denmark.

His fascination with directing was obvious. He started directing commercials in 1994, soon to become one of the most requested & loved directors in Europe.

After establishing his own Director’s Company BACON (with fellow director Kasper Wedendahl) in 2001, they both became extremely busy, not only in Europe, but also worldwide.

Bacon as a company has been awarded film Production Company of year at the true awards 2008, 2009, 2010 and again in 2011.

In 1997 he won a silver award at Cresta USA for a Magazine called ‘Blender’. In 1998, Martin won gold at Mobus USA for a Carlsberg shot, and was resented with gold again at FIAB for a Nobles Cigarettes commercial in Spain.

In Denmark, that same year, he won Bronze for a commercial for the Danish railways. 

In 2000 he received four Gold Awards at Creative Circle in Denmark for his films for Post Denmark. 

He won gold at Cresta in 2001 for his work for the Danish Ministry of the Environment. In 2002 Martin won more than half of the awards at Arnold02 in Denmark, for Synoptic (Optician) and FCK (Danish football team) shots. 

Martin also won Arnold03 with a Tuborg Classic spot. In 2003 and 2004, Martin won Gold Corn for best director in Denmark. In 2004, he won Arnold04 for Synoptik (Old people), and Nordic Creative Circle voted him Director of the year in both 2004 and 2005.

He won for the spot Tuborg Classic (Exceptionally different) in 2005 an Epica bronze and a Black Crown gold and Gold at the Apple AD awards in Istanbul. 

In 2006, he once again became director of the year at Danish Arnold awards and won 2 other prices with his black (and white) Cafe Noir spots ”Rabbit” and ”Clown”. Additionally, he won a diploma fore best directing on Nykredit ”Lars  and Connie”. He also won Gold for best commercial at the Swedish Golden Egg Awards for the Poolia insurance spot ”The manager”. 

In 2007, he won the Cresta Gold Award and Epica Gold for Café Noir ”Nose bear”, Best Director of the year at the Scandinavian Creative Circle Awards for Coke Zero ”Supermarket” and Director of the year at The True Awards Copenhagen for the Café Noir Campaign and the 2007 New York festival Gold World Medal for ”Litter in the dustbin”. 

In 2008, he won the UK Campaign and Film 4 Director's Cut Awards, which celebrate longer length commercial, while at the 2008 Epica awards, he won silver with Seat ”Eins, Twie, Drei”, Silver with Carlsberg ”Pong” and Bronze with Cafe Noir ”100 % black – Serge”.

Martin became Director of The Year at the 2009 Creative Awards for the SAS ”Uffe Elleman and Nicolaj Coster W”- spots. He won the UK best director awards at the BBC ONE show with Coke Zero ”Mission Impossible” and won GOLD at the Turkish Film Awards for ”Maxi Milles”. In 2007, 2008, 2009 he was nominated best director in Denmark, in 2011 he won for best directing and best commercial for “George Clooney” in Norway and later winning Gold at Epica and silver at Eurobest for the same commercial.

In May 2010, he directed his first fiction film ”Bosporus” founded by The Danish Institute shot on location in Istanbul Turkey, and in 2011 he did “Øresund”, another Danish short film.

“Bosporus” was nominated best short film at the Danish film academy Robert Awards 2012. “Øresund” won Best Film at the “Open Air”-film festival in Riga.

For his Jack & Jones commercial, starring Christopher Walken, Martin won several prices: 2 Grand Prix Eurobest 2013, 1 Grand Prix New York Festivals 2014, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze at Cannes Lions Festival 2014, and at the True Awards 2014 - Best Direction, Best Film Campaign, Best Film - TV & Cinema and Best Film.

Martin was also rewarded for his book trailer “you and me at Dawn”, for which he won Best Direction and Best Online FilM at this year’s True awards.

Bacon won Epica D’Or, Black Pencil, D&AD- Most Awarded Production company 2014, Best Prod.Co of the Year at the True Awards, and Eurobest Golden Palm - Europe´s no 1 production company 2013.


In 2014, Martin was also nominated in the category “Best Director of the Year” at Shots Award 2014, and he received several first award prizes at Berlin fashion Film Festival 2014 plus he won a Gold Lion at Cannes Lions Festival 2015 for his Magnum-ad “Be True To Your Pleasure”. 

Martin’s strong energy shines through in all his commercials – sometimes as an intelligent or sensitive energy and sometimes as an unstoppable power. 

Martin can be hard to label, because he masters a wide range of genres with the same enthusiasm and professionalism, but in all of his commercials it is the quality, sensitivity and energy that stands out.

Martin is 45 years old and lives in Tårbæk/Denmark with his wife Barbara, three sons and one daughter.
