For the sake of appearance – What are Cosmetics?
Breaking it down roughly Cosmetics are articles intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled, or sprayed on, introduced into, or otherwise applied to the human body or any part thereof for cleansing, beautifying, promoting attractiveness, or altering the appearance. But next to this minimal definition there is a whole philosophy to it!
Being one of the most ancient arts known to humanity cosmetics have a spiritual and metaphysical significance. Referring to ancient Greek philosophers we are bringing ourselves into line with the Cosmos itself, by maximising our small part in its order and beauty. Applying “Order” instead of “Chaos”… We get it.
What interests us about this earth-shattering case, is how this ancient art form meets one of our most contemporary art forms and how both are taking each other to other levels. Addressing social issues and touching eternal questions as the definition of “Beauty” itself…
